About our restaurant
Insula opened June 8 2015 in the building vacated by the old Vertin's restaurant.
Owned and run by Executive Chef Daniel Vollom (proud Ely Memorial High School graduate 1996) and Sarah Wigdahl-Vollom, Insula has captured the imagination and enlivened the tastebuds of the eating scene in Ely, Minnesota. Join us.

“Delicious and so cute! I tried their forager burger and it was fantastic. I’m not usually a fan of homemade chips, which was the side for the burger, but these were so delicious. Whatever seasoning they put on those chips is perfection!
My partner ordered their truffle Mac and cheese and that was also fantastic. The perfect amount of truffle to cheese ratio.
The staff here were extremely kind! I would definitely come back here.”

At Insula Restaurant we chose to use the first-come first-served method! This helps to keep the flow of the dining room during busier times. Should the restaurant be full when you stop in, we ask that you leave your name and number with the host and we’ll call as soon as a table opens.
